History

In the 2023 legislative session, the House and Senate approved the new Beehive Flag, which was then signed into law by Governor Spencer Cox on March 21st.

The new flag replaces the original state flag, known as Seal on a Bedsheet, which will still be recognized as an official flag and will be flown with the new flag at the State Capitol during official ceremonies, special events, and legislative sessions.

The original state flag was created in 1903 to be used at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, and was later officially adopted on March 9, 1911.

Since then, there have been multiple attempts to modernize the flag to better encapsulate the Utah Way.
